24 January 2018 – NASA meets EXCELSIOR
08–13 April 2018 – European Geosciences Union, General Assembly 2018 Vienna, Austria

Session AS5.1: Earth surveillance and space-based monitoring of the environment: Integrated approaches

A Session entitled “AS5.1 Earth surveillance and space-based monitoring of the environment: Integrated approaches” will be organized at the next European Geosciences Union General Assembly in Vienna, Austria, 8–13 April 2018. The Session will be held under the Atmospheric Sciences Discipline Sessions. To submit an abstract, use the link https://www.egu2018.eu/; choose “Call-for-abstracts and then from “Selected programme groups”, select “Atmospheric Sciences and submit your abstract to Session AS5.1.

Alternatively, you can go directly to:

https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2018/sessionprogramme

Select “Atmospheric Sciences” and then submit your paper to SessionAS5.1.

This session will accept papers on integrated technologies of Earth observation that are used to provide reliable up-to-date information needed to better observe, understand, protect, monitor, and predict environmental parameters that are interrelated with the human, physical and built environment. There is a systematic ‘push’ of filling the research gap for integrating different remote sensing techniques e.g., field spectroscopy, UAV’s, multispectral cameras, in-situ and active remote sensing (lidar) techniques with space-based techniques for monitoring the environment. Indeed, this provides an extra benefit to the remote sensing users for assessing, validating and deriving auxiliary information, in order to assist the space-based activities. Calibration of space-based derived data is a must in the active and passive satellite remote sensing. This session will give the opportunity to the participants to exchange ideas and identify future trends in the integrated use of remote sensing and space-based techniques for monitoring the environment. Eastern-Mediterranean region is considered as an important and strategic region for assessing the effectiveness and implementation of space-based of the environment activities such as water resources management, natural hazards (floods, fires, earthquakes, landslides etc), aerosol-cloud interaction, climate changes, land-cover changes, urban heat, solar radiation, energy, cultural heritage etc. Special interest in this session is to provide the opportunity to exchange ideas with existing projects that contributes to the Copernicus Services and GEO. Finally, ideas of how Big Data activities are used to bridge the gap between Earth observation and information technology sectors are welcome.

Information about this Session are available at: http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2018/session/27835

We are looking forward to seeing you in Vienna in April 2018, so consider the opportunity of submitting your contribution to this Session. The deadline for submitting an abstract is 10 Jan 2018, 13:00 CET. Please feel free to forward this announcement to your peers and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
